Community and Social Progress
In October 2004 members of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Manati Emergency
Response Team (ERT) participated in a Community Awareness and Emergency
Response (CAER) activity at the Antonio Velez Alvarado Elementary School.
The ERT members exhibited emergency equipment and educated the children
and teachers regarding fire prevention.
In August 2004, part of our environmental committee "Amigos del
Ambiente," EHS, human resources, and administration representatives
participated in an environmental initiative, along with the Solid Waste
Authority of Puerto Rico, at the Dr. Juan S. Marchand school. The activity
encompassed the theme of recycling, which is in alignment with the EHS
efforts to protect our environment. Students had the opportunity to create
recycled paper.
On June 16, 2004, members of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Manati emergency
response team (ERT) participated in the Cyber Summer Camp Activity at
the Manati Municipality Library. The ERT members provided information
about automatic external defibrillators (a small, portable device that
is attached to an individual's chest when the heart's normal rhythm is
disturbed, such as during a heart attack) and exhibited emergency equipment
to children and other visitors.
In 2004, the facility received two awards from the Puerto Rico Manufacturing
Association (PRMA). The Safety Achievement Award was received for significant
reduction in its accident incidence rate. A facility EHS Specialist, earned
the Distinguished Safety Professional award for excellence in the occupational
safety and health (OSH) field.
