METAGLIP™ (glipizide and metformin HCl Tablets)

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

METAGLIP™ is not for everyone. In rare cases, METAGLIP may cause lactic acidosis (buildup of lactic acid in the blood), which is serious and can be fatal in half the cases. This occurs mainly in people whose kidneys are not functioning properly. Tell your physician or healthcare professional about your alcohol use, because it can increase your risk. You should not take METAGLIP if you: have kidney problems, are 80 or older (unless your kidneys are tested), are taking medicine for heart failure, are seriously dehydrated, have a severe infection, have or have had liver disease, are allergic to glipizide or metformin hydrochloride, or suffer from metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis.

The most common side effects of METAGLIP are diarrhea, nausea/vomiting and upset stomach. Symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) such as lightheadedness, dizziness, shakiness, or hunger may also occur.

Remember to discuss with your physician any prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking as well as any health problems you have before starting METAGLIP.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

METAGLIP is indicated as initial therapy, as an adjunct to diet and exercise, to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes whose hyperglycemia cannot be satisfactorily managed with diet or exercise alone.

METAGLIP is indicated as second-line therapy when diet, exercise and initial therapy with a sulfonylurea or metformin do not result in adequate glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Available only by prescription.
