| At
Bristol-Myers Squibb when we think about diversity we do so in terms
of people, of perspective and of experience. All aspects are required
in order for us to fully deliver on our commitment to enhancing
the diversity of our employees. And why is this so important? Because
our ability to attract, develop, and retain a globally diverse workforce
will provide us the best opportunity to fully live our Mission and
Pledge, and to meet all our commitments as described in our Pledge
– to customers, suppliers, shareholders, communities and to
our colleagues.
Over
the last ten years, we have made significant progress in our diversity
and work/life integration efforts. A few examples include our state-of-the
art on-site child development centers; our resources for assisting
aging family members; our affinity groups for diverse constituencies,
including African Americans, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender
employees, and women; and our ongoing work to broaden workplace
flexibility.
We
are very pleased that our efforts have also been recognized by external
sources. In 2003 we were named one of the Top 30 Companies for Executive
Women by the National Association of Female Executives; we were
selected by Working Mother magazine as one of the Top 10
Best Companies for Working Mothers (for the third year in a row);
we received two awards for our Supplier Diversity Program in recognition
of our commitment to minority and women owned businesses; and we
were selected by Health Magazine as one of the 10 healthiest companies
for women in the U.S.
