Deep resources.
Proven capabilities for building blockbusters.
Our success with partnerships is unmatched. In the past decade, we have built four $1 billion-plus franchises with partner companies, and products from partnerships have consistently represented more than half of our global revenues.
We engage the entire continuum of our resources to enhance the value of brands over their full lifecycle. Our discovery research, clinical development, regulatory expertise, marketing, and sales capabilities are not isolated functions. They are integrated through our formal organization and our evolving culture -- function-by-function and country-by-country, around the world. The result is measurable advantages for our products and our partners.
Research and Development (R&D).
R&D is the heart and soul of our pharmaceutical business, whether we are working alone or in a partnership. With nearly 40 compounds in development, six in full development; nearly 7,000 employees world wide; a network of research facilities around the globe and a budget of $3.1 billion in 2007, our R&D organization is one of the premier R&D organizations in the industry. Business Development's External Science & Technology and Licensing group supports R&D in identifying, reviewing, and developing collaborative agreements with organizations that can provide valuable assistance.
Resources for clinical development.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company has long been known for the speed, productivity, and quality of our clinical development. As proof, in 1999 President Clinton presented the National Medal of Technology to Bristol-Myers Squibb "for redefining the science of clinical study through groundbreaking and hugely complex clinical trials that are recognized as models in the industry." Many of our important partnerships began because the timing and critical nature of the opportunity demanded the kind of scale, attention, and execution that Bristol-Myers Squibb could provide.
Experience for regulatory success.
Our regulatory experience is as wide as it is deep. We have worked to bring products to market worldwide, in a broad range of therapeutic areas. The insights we've gained in each geographic and therapeutic area are applicable in other areas as well.
Partnering with governments.
The Policy and Government Affairs department represents Bristol-Myers Squibb and its partnered products, when appropriate, before the executive and legislative branches of government in the international, federal, and state levels, and is responsible for the review, development, and execution of public policy positions that support our corporate mission.
Government Affairs also meets with legislators, other policy makers, and influential non-governmental organizations, to advocate company positions on issues of importance to the company and industry.
